Major Walter Reed, M.D.
Why We Like Him: Major Walter Reed, M.D. was an army physician who received is M.D. from the University of Virginia. While in the army, Reed examined tropical diseases and lead a team that eventually determined that Yellow Fever was transmitted by mosquitoes. Reed has been laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery. His tombstone reads, "He gave to man control of that dreadful scourge yellow fever."
