Why We Like Him: Alben William Barkley (attended University of Virginia 1898) served as Vice-President of the United States from 1949 to 1953. In addition to his long political career, Barkley also ran a political TV program. Early in his political career, he earned the nickname "Ironman" due to his ability to deliver many speeches a day, sometimes up to sixteen.
